Webinar On Demand - The Intersection Between Family Law and Wills & Estates in Estate Planning

1 CPD Unit – Substantive Law

Family law and estate planning are no longer areas that can be considered in isolation.

Decisions made when a client enters a relationship, separates, divorces, negotiates a property settlement, establishes a trust, makes a superannuation nomination, or updates a Will can have significant and sometimes unintended consequences for their broader estate plan.

For accountants, lawyers and other professional advisers, understanding the intersection between family law and wills and estates is essential to providing complete and effective advice. This is particularly important when advising clients in blended families, business-owning families, people with complex asset structures and relationships, or families seeking to protect wealth across generations.

In this practical webinar, join Indianna Wickes and Julia Popa from KHQ Lawyers as they explore the key issues that arise where family law and estate planning overlap, and the steps advisers should consider to help clients minimise risk, avoid disputes and ensure their planning documents remain effective.

The session will cover:

• The impact of marriage, separation and divorce on estate planning documents;
• The role of binding financial agreements in succession planning;
• The treatment of trusts and superannuation;
• Family provision risks;
• Blended family considerations; and
• Strategies for protecting wealth across generations.

This webinar is designed for accountants, lawyers and professional advisers who assist clients with succession planning, asset protection, business structuring, relationship breakdowns, family wealth planning or estate administration.
