From 1 July 2025 all tax practitioners must comply with the new Code of Professional Conduct obligations introduced under the Tax Agent Services (Code of Professional Conduct) Determination 2024 (Determination).

The Determination introduces additional obligations on tax practitioners which reinforce high professional, honesty, integrity and ethical standards. It aims to improve the confidence of the public in both the tax profession and the taxation system through greater accountability and transparency of the profession.

Presenter: Arthur Athanasiou
Principal, AGA Legal

Arthur is an Accredited Tax Law Specialist and a widely published writer on taxation issues having authored many articles and books on taxation. He regularly appears in the mainstream media, and presents at tax seminars and discussion groups.

Arthur qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987, and has held senior taxation and management positions. He has extensive experience in all areas of direct and indirect taxation.

Arthur has more than 35 years' experience in providing personalised legal services, specialising in tax law, managing tax audits, tax litigation, assisting tax agents in TPB matters and trust and estates disputes.

Arthur is a former President and Life Member of the Tax Institute and has also chaired the Law Institute's Tax Law Advisory Committee for more than a decade.

Arthur was appointed an Adjunct Professor in the School of Law at La Trobe University in January 2019 and has been recognised as a Leading Lawyer in Tax Law by Doyles Guide since 2015 and also be Best Lawyers in Trusts & Estates since 2023.
